Formed in 2002, the Comets are Mid-Warwickshire's leading girls rugby football team. They offer excellent coaching, regular competitive matches, high quality training facilities and a great opportuity to make new friends.
The teams play both 'contact rugby and also a non-contact version of the game, 'tag; rugby, suiting all tastes.
The team is actively recruiting new players - drop us an e-mail or join us at training on Wednesday nights at 7pm or Sunday mornings at 10.30am at Old Leamingtonians RFC.
The Experience
- Founded in 2002, the Comets is the leading all-girls rugby team in Mid Warwickshire.
- We train at Old Leamingtonians Rugby Club every Wednesday at 7pm and every Sunday at 10.30am – 12 noon.
- Old Leamingtonians has a modern clubhouse, acres of playing fields, and dedicated girls-only changing facilities.
- We have 38 girls playing regularly for our Club squads.
- We are connected to the English Rugby Football Union for Women (RFUW).
- All coaches have undertaken RFU coaching qualifications.
- All coaches are checked and registered with the UK CRB Child Protection system; these checks are regularly updated. The Club has a child protection policy in place.
- The club is backed up by a strong committee of volunteers and qualified First Aiders.
- We offer two codes of rugby for you to experience;
- Contact rugby, played in squads of 13 to 15 players plus substitutes, according to the RFUW laws of the game.
- Contact rugby is structured into two squads:
- Tag rugby, a non-contact version of the game, played in squads of 7 players plus substitutes.
- You can play Tag rugby between the ages of 8 to 17.
- We have competitive matches and festivals to attend every month. Everyone gets to play!
- We hold at least two contact and tag rugby tours every year; in 2006 we attended a weekend festival of rugby in Bath and Gloucestershire, and we also attended the Newquay Festival of Beach Rugby.
- We are featured in the local papers every month and have even been on Sky TV!
- We have an active social calendar outside of playing rugby; recent team social activities have included;
- Ten pin bowling
- Meals out at Ask and Frankie & Bennys
- Watching Northampton Saints and Leicester Tigers premier rugby teams
- Christmas social events
- Playing beach volleyball in Newquay
- We have the best supporters in the County across family friends and fellow players from Leamington and Old Leamingtonians Rugby Clubs!
Player subscription fees are £25 per annum, including a free club shirt. There are no weekly subs!
Personalised team shirts can be purchased for £35 each.
